Why I chose to make this costume:
Promare has lit my soul on fire and compelled me to cosplay a male anime character for the first time... ever? I feverishly made this costume toward the end of 2019 after watching the film four times and while listening to the fantastic soundtrack. Lio’s character absolutely captivated me and I just had to... be him.
How I made this costume:
The entire suit is made with the black mirror foil from my CosplayFabrics.com line. I also used the gold metal rope and punk studded trim from my trim collection, and a variety of Dritz belt buckles!
The gradient coloring is all Jacquard brand Lumiere acrylic paint, which the mirror foil took beautifully.
I floofed the wig a lot and gradient dyed it with FWink x alcohol.
Thoughts on this costume:
It was cool to experience a new type of cosplaying after 20 years of doing it. I had to not only change my silhouette but also my demeanor, the way I walked etc. Lio is such an exquisitely beautiful character imbued with authority and strength, and I really love posing as him. The event photos were taken at Holiday Matsuri; the studio photos are from a photoshoot in Tokyo's Haco cosset space.
There is also a cool music video by Rescue the Princess!
