About a month after the "King of the Nerds" episode aired, I began filming "Heroes of Cosplay" for Syfy channel. Though the journey to getting the first episodic TV Show about cosplay greenlit was about 3 years long for, which began with a simple phone call. Over the next couple of years, I shot multiple sizzles with production, recommended cosplay friends to be cast members on the show, and went to a couple of conventions and made a couple of costumes for them. We basically shot a mini-season and finally in January 2013, Syfy ordered 6 episodes of the show still known to us as "CosWorld" at the time.
I did my absolute best to be on time for every filming day, accommodate logistics and be a good hardworking cosplayer, because that is what I am. Cosplay is more than just my hobby, it is my sole form of income. Letting a film crew follow me for months while trying to get work done was interesting to say the least lol. I had some unforgettable experiences during the show, overwhelmingly positive. All TV productions are hectic and all good things have to be balanced out with some negativity. I'm glad to have been a part of a TV show that not only did well in the ratings, but also had a huge internet buzz around it. I will take the good and bad buzz with a project I worked on over silence and apathy any day. And all the talk about HoC resulted in countless people contacting me and letting me know that they were introduced to Cosplay for the first time and how much they are enjoying this artform with their parents, kids, friends, brothers and sisters, spouses, granparents, aunts and uncles etc. So many heartfelt happy messages and smiles, I really could not ask for anything better.
